I think everyone heard about the food poisoning incident at the Geylang Serai market shows how poor hygiene can have a wide impact on public health.Singaporeans view hygiene as part of gracious behaviour, during a community event to welcome new resident or something else.

This is what Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said If you have poor hygiene in public places, littering, food all over the place, rats running around the market, that's very ungracious behaviour,'

What he said is very true. The incident suggested something was amiss but stressed that Members of Parliament for the area were quick to respond and were not absent, as some rumours had it.So we should do something about it.We shouldn't let other counties people say Singapore people are so ungracious.

Singaporean parents play their role in the proper upbringing of their children.Sadly, there are a number of parents today who spoil their children.Increasingly, I observe many young children, like me,not greeting their elders, whether it's their relatives or neighbours and their parents do not teach them that it is only courteous to do so.Parents have a critical role to play on teaching their children basic courtesy - whether it's giving up their seats to the elderly, or giving way to the disabled.Legislating care for the elderly can be only a short-term measure. But having said that, the aged, too, should not ask for more than what their children can afford as they have their own commitments and families to care for. They must try not to rely totally on their children if they are financially independent. It is sad that in our society, things get done only when legislated.

I guess it is very logical for Spore govt to continuously pushing all means possible to increase Singaporeans graciousness. It is in Spore's interest to push their graciousness to max since they wanted to promote Singapore as a Tourism site and not a big Mall Island where people can shop.I realize that Singaporean is not exactly gracious.. nor are they friendly. At least that is how they look like. Singaporean doesn't smile very often, they walk very fast and they don't have time to pay attention to other people especially due to the fact that they always have an urgent matter to attend to.But don’t judge the book by its cover, it’s true that Singaporean don’t really smile when they happen to make eye contact with stranger, but they give seat to people who needs it (maybe because now we have Stomper everywhere) and they do are a good people if you know them.Graciousness is never about other people. It is something that comes from the kind heart. I guess sporrans sometimes are just too busy to stop for a minute and look around.
